Stage 1 of 7
Days 1–3: Windhoek to Sossusvlei – Into the Namib Desert
Your Luxury Adventure begins in Windhoek, where you collect your vehicle and head south across Namibia’s vast open spaces. The landscape changes from grassy plains to rugged mountain passes, and finally to the red dunes of the Namib Desert. You’ll spend two nights at Kulala Desert Lodge, an elegant retreat with private access into Sossusvlei. From here, you can explore the iconic dunes and the surreal white clay pan of Deadvlei. Evenings bring the kind of silence and starlight that only the desert can offer — an unforgettable beginning to your journey.

Stage 2 of 7
Days 4–5: Namib Desert to Swakopmund – From Sand to Sea
Leaving the desert behind, you travel across gravel plains and through the dramatic canyons of the Kuiseb before reaching the Atlantic coast. The air cools, and the scent of the ocean greets you as you arrive in Swakopmund. Your accommodation at Desert Breeze overlooks rolling dunes and offers a touch of colour and comfort after the dry heat of the Namib. Swakopmund’s lively atmosphere, good food, and coastal adventures make it a welcome pause between stretches of wild solitude.

Days 6–8: Damaraland – A Desert Wilderness of Stone and Sky
The road north leads you into Damaraland — one of Namibia’s most striking and remote regions. Towering granite domes, dry riverbeds, and ancient valleys set the scene for days of exploration and pure wilderness. You’ll travel through this rugged landscape, visiting ancient rock engravings, vast open plains and desert-adapted wildlife along the way. Evenings are spent under an open sky, where the glow of the campfire is your only light and the silence feels endless. This is Namibia at its most raw and beautiful.

Days 9–10: The Remote Northwest – Into the Unknown
From Damaraland, the journey deepens into true expedition territory. The route leads into the remote northwest — through dry riverbeds and wild terrain that few travellers ever reach. This stretch demands self-sufficiency and a spirit of adventure: long drives, rugged tracks, and wild beauty in every direction. Desert elephants, giraffes and even black rhinos inhabit this arid landscape. Every mile takes you further from the ordinary, closer to the heart of the wilderness.

Days 11–13: Hoanib River & Skeleton Coast – The Edge of the World
From the remote northwest, you continue toward the legendary Skeleton Coast — one of the most isolated regions in Africa. The journey itself is part of the adventure, as you follow the Hoanib River through canyons and open sand valleys to reach your reward: Skeleton Coast Camp, a rare pocket of luxury hidden in the desert. For two nights, you’ll explore this astonishing ecosystem: the haunting beauty of shipwreck-strewn beaches, the cool Atlantic fog rolling over golden dunes, and the extraordinary wildlife that survives here — from desert-adapted lions and elephants to oryx, giraffes, and brown hyenas. Your final night in this region is spent back under the stars, surrounded by silence. This is the pinnacle of your adventure — remote, wild, and deeply humbling.

Stage 6 of 7
Days 14–16: Damaraland to Etosha – From Desert to Savannah
You retrace your path southward through rugged Damaraland and gradually re-enter the savannah landscapes surrounding Etosha National Park. Here, open plains and shimmering salt pans stretch to the horizon. Spend your days on safari, moving between waterholes where elephants, lions and zebra gather. The atmosphere shifts from raw desert wilderness to classic African bush — still wild, but alive with movement and sound.

Days 17–18: Okonjima & Return to Windhoek – Conservation and Journey Home
Your final nights are spent at Okonjima Bush Lodge, where comfort meets conservation. Explore the private reserve, track leopards and cheetahs with expert guides, and enjoy the peace of the bush. On the last morning, return to Windhoek, reflecting on the adventure you’ve completed: from remote deserts and rugged mountains to wild rivers and savannahs, every mile has been unforgettable. The journey ends, but the memories will last a lifetime.
Before you book: Namibia in practice
- Drives on
- Left. Most rentals are manual double-cab 4x4s.
- Tar vs gravel
- B-roads are tar. C-roads are graded gravel. D-roads are minor gravel, sand or rock.
- Longest fuel gap
- Roughly 300 km in the Kaokoveld. Under 200 km almost everywhere else.
- Malaria
- Central and southern Namibia is effectively malaria-free. Etosha and the Zambezi Region are not.
- Sensible minimum
- 12 nights. Fewer, and you spend the trip driving past what you came for.
