Starting at Victoria Falls, this route crosses four countries, moving through some of Southern Africa’s most remote and untouched wilderness. Elephant-rich rivers, vast floodplains, expansive grasslands, and miombo woodlands define the landscapes. The journey combines immersive wilderness camping with comfortable lodge stays, offering a balance of adventure, wildlife encounters, and moments of comfort. Stage 1 of 5
DAYS 1-2: VICTORIA FALLS – ARRIVAL AND ORIENTATION
Arrival at Victoria Falls sets the tone, with the roar of the Zambezi and the spray of the falls hinting at the landscapes ahead. Vehicles are checked and supplies organised. The first nights at the beautiful Victoria Falls Hotel allow time to relax and absorb the surroundings. Evening walks along the river and the sounds of wildlife introduce the pace of life in the bush.

Stage 2 of 5
DAYS 3–5: CHOBE RIVERFRONT & CAPRIVI – RIVERS AND MOVEMENT
Crossing into Chobe and the Caprivi, campsites are positioned near rivers and channels. Elephants, hippos, and buffalo are frequent visitors, while mornings and evenings are shaped by wildlife activity and the flow of the river. Days are spent exploring floodplains, riverine forests, and channels, with birdlife and seasonal changes adding variety. Nights are filled with nocturnal sounds and the gentle murmur of flowing water.

DAYS 6–7: LIUWA PLAINS NATIONAL PARK – VASTNESS AND ISOLATION
Entering the open grasslands of Liuwa Plains, lodge accommodation provides comfort while keeping the connection to the wilderness. Vast skies, seasonal floodwaters, and near-total solitude define the experience. Guided drives and walks reveal wildebeest, lions, hyenas, and plains game, while evenings are spent quietly observing the plains or around the lodge fire under a star-filled sky.

DAYS 8–10: NORTHERN KAFUE NATIONAL PARK – REMOTE RIVERS AND WOODLANDS
Northern Kafue offers quiet rivers, dambos, and miombo woodlands. The famous Shumba Lodge in the Busanga Plains immerses in the surroundings, with elevated decks and private spaces. Game drives and walking safaris reveal elephants, leopards, and antelope, while peaceful mornings and immersive evenings create a strong sense of connection to the bush.

DAYS 11–13: SOUTHERN KAFUE NATIONAL PARK – DIVERSITY AND WILDLIFE DENSITY
Camping in Southern Kafue places you amid floodplains, rivers, and lagoons. Large herds of herbivores and predators move near camp, while nights are alive with the calls of lions, hyenas, and other nocturnal wildlife. Days are spent on exploratory drives across this diverse and wildlife-rich landscape.

- Left. Tar on the trunk routes, then it becomes a 4x4 country quickly.
- Night drives
- Permitted in Zambian national parks — rare in the region, and the reason for the leopard reputation.
- Camp season
- Many Luangwa bush camps close from roughly November to April and rebuild each season.
- Busanga Plains
- Flooded until around July. Access is realistically July to October only.
- Malaria
- Year-round risk throughout. Prophylaxis is not optional here.
